    Synopsis :


    This course covers topics on Electronics and Mechanical Switches and Relay and followed by the topic on DC Power Supplies. The course will also discuss on oscillator which include sinusoidal and square wave generated oscillators.For the power electronics devices the topic includes thyristors such as SCR, Triacs, Diacs and its application. Lastly the power control switching circuits such as Unijuntion transistor (UJT) and Programmble Unijunction transistor (PUT) will also be discussed.

  • Topic 1

    TOPIC 1 : SWITCHING CIRCUITS
    Topic 1 is about switching circuits. This topics include the mechanical and solid state switching circuits. Mechanical switches is categories as permanent and momentary switches. For relay topics it include mechanical and solid state relay.
  • Topic 2

    TOPIC 2 : DC POWER SUPPLY
    In this topic students will be able to understand the circuits and components involve in designing a dc power supply. These circuits are rectifier, filter and regulator. For the rectifier circuit the full wave rectifier circuit will be discussed with its dc output calculation and the waveform of the circuit. Filter circuit consist of a capacitor and the calculation involve the dc and ripple voltage. Finally the regulator circuits are using transistor , op-amp and the IC regulator.

    TOPIC 3 : OSCILLATOR
    Sinusoidal and square wave generated oscillator are discussed. The sinusoidal oscillator include the Phase shift, Wein bridge, Hartley and Colpitts oscillators. A brief discussion of the crystal oscillator is also discussed. For the multivibrator circuit the students will able to differentiate a astable, monostable and bistable oscillator circuits. Lastly the topic on circuit using comparator and Schmidt trigger on generating square wave will be discussed.

    TOPIC 4 : FAMILY OF THYRISTOR
    This topic discussed symbols and construction of the SCR, Triac and Diac. The further enhance the students understanding the operation and application of the thyristor family such as SCR, Triac and Diac are explore.
  • Topic 5

    TOPIC : RELAXATION OSCILLATOR
    This is the last topic for the course titled Relaxation Oscillator. Two devices Unijunction transistor and Programmable Unijunction transistor is used for the relaxation oscillator circuits. The topics discussed regarding the symbols, construction and the application of the circuits.
